Medical practice and institutions have developed to become significantly more advanced on a technological basis, yet this progress has still not reached the patient in terms of acceptance and empathy since the patient is considered an aberration that has to be normalized. This show questions medicine from the patient’s perspective by juxtaposing subjective points of view to the objectivity of science.
Transient Structures features the work of three artists who have unique but comparable experiences being hospitalized or dealing with a mental or physical illness, and whose practices have been influenced by these experiences. The exhibition focuses on art as a means to elaborate on trauma and engage with people who have not had those experiences in order to foster a sense of inclusion: the patient is not “the other” because everyone could be a patient.
