What happens when invisible interchangeable, anonymous objects, support structure to other precious objects claim space and visibility? In Out of Order support structures claim visibility by shaping environment.
Composed by 116 shelves, 5 pedestals and 288 screws, Out of Order is a conceptual site specific installation. Common use objects become metaphors for invisible and underpaid labor within the artistic context. Conveying ideas of dignity and protest through civil disobedience, the project was inspired by protests like “Day Without Immigrants” (February 17th 2017), “A Day Without a Woman” (March 8th 2017), or the 1968 Memphis Tennessee sanitation.
From a compositional standpoint, Out of Order resembles growing clusters of mold, moss of fungi.
