Conversations about Care is an intimate gathering of 8-15 people who meet to read books and talk about what care means to them. After a short introduction and acknowledgment (to care for the environment and history is to care for people), participants meet and share a personal experience related to care. In the following 20-30 minutes, they are invited to pick a book from the library and read in a communal setting, sitting on couches and comfortable chairs, while sipping on some tea. Heating pads and snacks are also present and available. After the reading time, participants share a quote/word/idea from a book and start a conversation. At the end, final thoughts from participants are recorded in writing. Those final ideas are archived and incorporated into artworks like Rest With Me #1 and #2.
This project is funded through a 2023 - 2024 MRAC Arts Impact for Individual Grant, supported by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
